The University of Liverpool Faculty of Medicine Undergraduates in North WalesThe North Wales Medical Trust is working in partnership with the University of Liverpool Faculty of Medicine to facilitate the placement of fifth year medical undergraduates in North Wales. North Wales has a long history of strong ties with Liverpool and its University and many of the doctors practising in the area are Liverpool graduates. Within a relatively small geographical area, there are three District General Hospitals - Ysbyty Gwynedd, Bangor, Ysbyty Glan Clwyd, Bodelwyddan, and Ysbyty Maelor, Wrexham - as well as a smaller unit in Llandudno.
The General Practice Experience is based at selected local Practices, all within easy reach of the accommodation. While the students are attending the Practices, there is the opportunity to work with GPs and all the Primary Health Care team, as well as many community based organisations which work with local Practices. A detailed programme is arranged for each student, with built-in flexibility. The students are treated as active members of the General Practice team, taking responsibility for patient care, with proper supervision.
All the activities in the Practice and at the day release course are co-ordinated by a GP tutor. Each Practice has a designated trainer who will supervise the work without inhibiting professional development.
